Fundado en marzo de 1884 por Manuel Lainez, Arturo Ugalde, Martín Biedma y Julio Bonet, fue el primer órgano de prensa de la ciudad de La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. En el año 1987 recibió el Premio Konex a la comunicación. Hasta el año 2008 conservó un diseño sabana tradicional, hasta que se optó por la impresión en formato tabloide. Actualmente también circula de manera digital.
